Together AI Tev1 4B Experimental

together/tev1-4b-experimental is an experimental decision model from Together AI, fine-tuned from Qwen3.5-4B. It is not a chat model. It takes a state, a question and labelled options, and answers with only the letter of the option it picks. Use it for work such as routing a support ticket to the right team or sorting a request into one of a fixed set of categories.

Model Context Max output Input / Output ($/1M)
together/tev1-4b-experimental 32,768 8 0.042 / 0

Call it on /v1/chat/completions.

The task goes in the user message as JSON:

  • state: the text to evaluate, for example a support ticket.
  • question: what the model has to answer.
  • options: 2 to 24 options. Each one has a label (A, B, C ... X, in order), the key you will use, and a short description.

The system message tells the model to return the letter alone. Without it the model starts writing prose and the answer is cut off at 8 tokens.

}
],

choices[0].message.content holds only the letter, for example "A".

Turning the letter back into your own key is up to you. Treat an empty answer, or a letter that is not in your list, as an error.

  • A response is at most 8 tokens. A max_tokens or max_completion_tokens value above 8 is rejected with a 400. If you leave the field out, the limit applies on its own.
  • Use temperature: 0. The same input then gives the same letter.
  • Do not turn thinking on. If you set chat_template_kwargs.enable_thinking to true, the model starts reasoning and the 8 tokens run out before the letter. Thinking is off when the field is not sent.
  • Text only. Image and audio input are not accepted. Tool calling (tools) is not supported.
  • The context is 32,768 tokens. The system message, the state and the options together have to fit in it.

The system message tells the model to read the text inside state as data rather than as instructions, but that is not a guarantee: an instruction written into the state can change the choice. If the state comes from a user or an outside source, do not use the result on its own for an access or payment decision; confirm it with a second check.

Only input tokens are billed, at $0.042 per 1 million tokens. Output tokens are free. No prompt-cache discount is applied.

stream: true is supported. Send stream_options: { "include_usage": true } and usage arrives in the last chunk.
